Seongmin Ji studied composition at Kunst Universität Graz in Austria (MA by prof. Klaus Lang) and Seoul National Univ. in Korea(BA by prof. Shinuh Lee).

He won the Music Prize of City Graz (Musikförderungspreis der Stadt Graz 2014, Chair of the Jury – Beat Furrer), Ilshin Composition Prize (selected by Unsuk Chin, 2018, with ViolinConcerto), ChristianDoppler Kompositionspreis (special prize, 2018), London Ear Festivalcomposition competition (2018), Orient Occident Competition (by LvivPhilharmonic Society of Ukrine, 2019, with Piano Concerto which is published by an Italian publisher Edition Aldebaran). Also he was a finalist of ORF Ö1 TalentbörseKompositionspreis and his work is selected for ERPS Biennale 2016 (selected as a piece for final round of ERPS competition) which is published by a german publisher (edition-trefontane)as well.

His orchestral work is selected / performed by Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (by UnsukChin, Conducted by Kwame Ryan), KLK Symphony Orchestra (Ukraine), GyeonggiPhilharmonic Orchestra, Daegu Symphony Orchestra, Daegu MBC Radio SymphonyOrchestra. His music and interview which he invited as a guest composer and improvisatorare broadcasted by ORF-Ö1 (2014,2015,2016), BBC 3 (2018), Radio Slovenija-ARS, RadioHelsinki and CBS several times.
He worked with distinguished musicians, ensembles and orchestras such as SeoulPhilharmonic Orchestra, Divertimento Ensemble, Ensemble Schallfeld, Szene Instrumental, Neo Quartet, Ensemble TIMF, Kwartludium Ensemble, Quki Ensemblee, Ensemble iiiiiiiii, Ensemble Names, KLK Symphony Orchestra, Gyungki Philharmonic Orchestra, DaeguSymphony Orchestra, Busan Festival Orchestra, Daegu MBC Radio Symphony orchestra,Sinfonisches Blasorchesters der Kunstuniversität Graz, PPCM, Ensemble für NeueMusik (Graz), ensemble Goodmori, Ensemble Eins, and also selected by international festivals such as IMPULS Academy 2015 (Austria, special program “Translucent spaces.Space_Sound_Performance”), beschauung/beschallung Festival (Austria, 2013, 2014,performed by Ensemble Quki), London Ear Festival (2018), 27th International Festival ofKrakow Composers (Poland,2015), iN Festival -internationalcontemporarymusicfestival (2015), Daegu International Contemporary Festival (2009, 2016), Concert of SzeneInstrumental (Austria,2015), Invisible Drives (Austria,2015), Busan Orchestral workcomposition competition (1st prize,2010) , Sukhi Kang Music Institute (Korea, 2014) inAustria, U.K, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, Slovenia, Servia, Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia and Korea.Also Invited to have a composition recital in 2014.

His activities in contemporary music field was supported by AVL Cultural Foundation (AVL CF) with recommendation of Dr. Helmut List who is the chairman of AVL company and one of the leading-sponsor for musicians.
Seongmin Ji is working as a composer, also as an Artistic director both of iNfestival -internationalcontemporarymusicfestival and ensemble iiiiiiiii and he worked as a composer in Residency by Daegu MBC Radio Symphony Orchestra (2017-2019) recently and Arts Council Korea selected and supported him and the Orchestra(2018, 2019).

서울대학교 작곡과 (이신우 사사) 졸업, 오스트리아 그라츠 국립음악대학교 작곡 석사 최우수 졸업 (Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz MA Komposition, Klaus Lang 사사) 외 그라츠 국립음악대학교 작곡과 극음악작곡(Komposition-Musiktheater. Klaus Lang 사사) 석사과정과 앙상블지휘(UL Ensembleleitung) 과정에서 수학했다.

작곡가로서의 미학적 위치와 정교한 작곡기법 등을 인정받아 유럽에서 가장 오랜 전통의 작곡상 중 하나인 오스트리아 그라츠市 음악상(Musikförderungspreis der Stadt Graz, 2014)을 수상한 작곡가 지성민은 KLK Symphony Orchestra, Divertimento Ensemble, Szene Instrumental, Ensemble Schallfeld, Neo Quartet, Quki Ensemblée, Ensemble Kwartludium, Names Ensemble, beschauung/ beschallung festival(위촉독주회, 2013, 2014, Austria), Impuls Academy (2015, Austria), 27th International Festival of Krakow Composers (2015, Poland), London Ear Festival (2018, UK) 등 유럽의 여러 앙상블, 페스티벌, 세계적인 연주단체들로부터 선정되거나 위촉을 받고 공동작업을 하였으며, 비엔나 예술가의 집 (Künstlerhaus Wien)에서의 연주, 2013년과 2014년 2회에 걸친 유럽 10개 도시 순회연주(Quki Ensemblée 위촉)등 150여회의 연주 외에도 다수의 곡들이 ORF- Ö1 오스트리아 국영 라디오 (2014, 2015, 2016), 영국 BBC 3 Radio, Radio Slovenija-ARS 슬로베니아 국영 라디오, Radio Helsinki 등에서 방송, 초청 연주 되거나 초청작곡가와 즉흥연주자로서 조명되었고, 오스트리아 Kirchenchor ST. Vinzenz와 지휘자 David Wohlhart에 의해 Mozart 미사곡의 파이프오르간 연주자로서 초청되어 연주하는 등 다양한 영역의 예술활동을 하고 있다.

최근 오케스트라 작품들로 주요 활동 반경을 더 넓혀가고 있는 지성민은 바이올린 협주곡 등으로 2018년 일신작곡상을 수상하고 새로운 작품을 위촉 받았으며, 바이올린 협주곡에 이어진 바이올린 콘체르티노 1번은 한국의 대표적 현대음악앙상블인 TIMF Eensemble 20주년 위촉작품으로서 디토 오케스트라 수석 바이올리니스트 김지윤에 의해 호평 받으며 연주되었다. 그의 첫번째 피아노 협주곡은 우크라이나의 Orient Occident 국제작곡콩쿠르에서 수상하고, 피아니스트 Nataliya Martynova과 KLK Symphony Orchestra에 의해 연주되는 동시에 이탈리아의 저명한 출판사인 Aldebaran Editions에서 악보가 출판되었는데 해당 출판사의 현대음악 작품 중 유일하게 품절이 되며 큰 주목을 받기도 하였다. 그의 두번째 피아노 협주곡은 독일 ARD 콩쿠르 한국인 최초 우승자 손정범과 제네바 콩쿠르 2위를 석권한 이효주 등 세계적 수준의 피아니스트들에 의해 초연되었다.

  그 외에도 위상수학과 음악적 아이디어를 결합하여 수년간 지속적으로 연구해 온 독자적인 음악적 어법을 작품과 연구보고서로 동시에 인정 받아, 오스트리아의 저명한 물리학자 Christian Doppler의 과학연구재단이 수여하는 Doppler 작곡상 특별상을 수상하였고, 영국 London Ear 콩쿠르 입상, ORF-Ö1 오스트리아 국영 방송국이 주최하는 탈렌테뵈어제(Talentebörse)작곡상 파이널리스트, 유럽 ERPS Biennale2016 콩쿠르 본선지정곡 선정 및 독일 출판사 edition-tre-fontane 출판, 2018, 2019 오작교 작곡가 선정 (한국문화예술위원회), 서울시향 리딩세션(진은숙 선정, Kwamé Ryan 지휘 2016), Ensemble TIMF 20주년 기념 위촉, 2021 유네스코 네트워크 뮤직페스티벌 위촉, TheHouseConcert 초청 Portrait (2014), 강석희음악연구소 선정 (Ensemble TIMF연주, 2014), 대구시립교향악단 연주, 부산창작관현악콩쿨 대상 수상 등 여러가지 활동을 해 왔다. 

 그의 예술가로서의 활동은 오스트리아 최대의 기업 중 하나이며 가장 앞서 나가는 예술후원자인 AVL社의 Helmut List 회장의 인정을 받고 그의 추천을 통해 AVL 문화재단에서 후원을 받았으며, 오스트리아 주정부와 주한오스트리아 대사관의 후원도 받았다.  최근까지 대구 MBC 교향악단 (현 대구국제방송교향악단)의 전속작곡가를 3년간 연속으로 역임하는 동안 한국문화예술위원회(ARKO)의 오작교 프로젝트에 2년간 선정되고, 현재는 국제현대음악제인 iN Festival – international contemporary music festival과 현대음악앙상블 ensemble iiiiiiiii 의 총감독 겸 상임작곡가로 활동하고 있으며, 그의 피아노 작품들을 모은 음반이 2022년 뉴욕의 링컨센터 연주와 더불어 미국에서 녹음될 예정이다
